I earned my PhD at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, where I studied a large subtelomeric gene family in the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans. I now hope to apply my skills to studying heavy metal tolerance in the genus Suillus. I am specifically interested in using NGS techniques to understand the genomic and transcriptomic bases for metal tolerance in this genus. I also hope to use my experience with CRISPR-Cas9 mutagenesis to engineer the Suillus genome to investigate the roles of specific genes that may be responsible for heavy metal tolerance.
